Questions & Answers
Why tap water has bad taste and odor?
The smell and taste of tap water is caused by the presence of chlorine. Besides, the chlororganic substances (caused by chlorination of organic substances in water) may intensify the unpleasant odor.

Whether chlorine is dangerous?
According to the sanitary standard, the concentration of chlorine in tap water is not dangerous to the healthy person. However, for the people with asthmatic and allergic diseases the presence of even small concentrations of free chlorine can worsen the state of health. In addition chlorine reacts with organic substances which are present in any tap water, causing formation of chlororganic substances (e.g., chloroform, chlorphenols, dioxins).

Is rain water healthy?
The atmosphere is almost universally heavily polluted with various technogenic substances (nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, organic compounds, radioactive dust). All these substances fall down as an "acid rain".

Does boiling solve bad water problems?
With the boiling it is possible to kill bacteria and reduce volatile organic compounds (VOC) concentration, but concentration of non-volatile organic and inorganic substances even increases.

Can AQUAPHOR filter release adsorbed harmful substances back to filtered water?
AQUALEN activated ion-exchange fibers and coconut shell activated carbon are used as the main adsorbents in the AQUAPHOR water purifiers. AQUALEN functional surface groups bind heavy metals ions through the formation of chelate complexes. Due to the chelating mechanism, lead, copper, cadmium, mercury and other ions bind practically irreversible. Extremely fine porosity of the AQUAPHOR composite cartridges ensures binding of all major impurities.

Can I store the filtered water?
For the overnight storage it is recommended to keep filtered water in a refrigerator.

What about bottled water?
The bulk of both import and domestic bottled water is most often made by purifying usual tap water (except mineral water from natural sources). This purification is based on the same principles as the AQUAPHOR filters.

Why the clean and transparent water from artesian well becomes muddy and yellow?
The artesian water acting with a clay ground, as a rule is enriched with mineral salts including aluminum, hardness ions and iron. The concentration of iron can reach 30 mg/L. Exposed to oxygen, soluble ferrous ions oxidate into insoluble ferric-iron which precipitates and makes water "rusty".

What is a prefilter?
Prefilter works as a "first barrier" for dirty water. Prefilter removes suspended solids, such as rust, sand particles etc. and prolongs the "lifetime" of the more expensive main water purifier. The impurities can consist of different size particles: from large sand particles and down to submicron colloids. Prefilter removes these particles. The size of prefilter "sieve" depends on the material of the prefilter element and its design.

Which adsorbents are used in the AQUAPHOR water purifiers?
AQUAPHOR Corp. uses only high quality, food-grade materials: AQUALEN activated ion-exchange fiber, high-quality coconut shell granular activated carbon, various ion-exchange resins and AQUAPHOR CARBON BLOCK. As a main adsorbent, AQUAPHOR uses patented ACTIVATED CARBON COMPOSITE (ACC) - matrix consisting of Activated Fiber and Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), which provides great adsorption rate and capacity toward harmful organic and inorganic compounds (chlorine, chloroform, phenols, pesticides, copper, mercury etc.) together with excellent dirt holding properties.
